The
Surf City Volunteer Fire Department responds to many calls for
assistance all during the different times of the year, all hours of the
day and night. These calls of assistance come from private citizens,
other area fire departments, Emergency Medical Services agencies, and
law enforcement officers. The nature of these calls varies, and each
response is unique, as no incident is the same as any before it. Below
is a breakdown of the calls we responded to for the year 2005. Our
Incident Reporting year begins January 1 and ends December 31 of each
year. Each incident we respond to, no matter the nature, is logged and
entered into a nationwide incident reporting system. This system is
known as NFIRS (Nation Fire Incident Reporting System). It assists the
U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) in maintaining statistical databases for various reports and
to help design safety and fire prevention programs and materials for the
general public. The
