Training
The State of North
Carolina requires that our personnel attend a minimum of 36
hours of training per calendar year. Our training year begins on
January 1 and ends on December 31 of each year. There is no set
requirement on the type of training that is to be given, as long
as it is related to the fire service.
Training topics range
from safety, equipment operation and maintenance, personal
protective equipment, first aid and CPR, ropes and knots,
ladders, communications, record keeping, incident command, mass
casualty incidents, forcible entry, public education, fire
prevention, arson detection, cause and origin investigation,
hazardous materials, fire streams and appliances, sprinkler
systems, and many, many others.
Our members are required
to receive training in Hazardous Materials at the Awareness
Level, as well as basic firefighter training and bloodborne
pathogens within a reasonable amount of time after joining the
department. This minimum training is vital for the protection of
our members and the community we serve.
Our personnel meet every Monday evening at
7:00 pm for a weekly training session. During these sessions
many different types of training my be offered. Below is our
training calendar. It will be updated as our training schedule
is updated. All members of the Surf City VFD are encouraged to
attend as many of these sessions as possible.
